This inspiring ted talk is all about how powerful and encouraging your words can be if you actually use them. Clint Smith is a well respected teacher who encourages his students to "Tell their truth" and emphasized that silence can be dangerous. He uses pathos to engage his listeners with stories about his childhood and ways that being silent has led to a lot of regret. Towards the end of his speech he stats to talk faster and speaks almost in the form of a poem which I found to be very intriguing. He gives examples of how he has fallen into silence such as " When the woman at the fundraising gala said "I'm so proud of you. It must be so hard teaching those poor, unintelligent kids," I bit my lip, because apparently we needed her money more than my students needed their dignity." (Smith 1:28) This makes the audience relate with him and understand that he knows first hand how silence can dangerously misconstrue your true feelings. In this video he taught me that not saying anything can make you just as guilty as saying the "wrong thing". I think this connects to the global dream because communication is key in most aspects of life. The global dream is all about being connected to one another and we can't do that unless the world as whole can be truthful and communicate with one another. Smith teaches this to his students by reminding them to "tell their truth" everyday. I think this relates to an article we read call "The fear of failure" because both pertain of being afraid; whether that be being afraid of failing or saying the wrong thing. I enjoyed this article a lot because I felt like everything he said could help not only myself but a world a a whole. If everyone said how they really felt and stood up for what they thin is right the world would be a better place. I would recommend this ted talk to young children and teenagers.
