This TED talk is about how creativity is just as important as literacy in education and why we should hold it at the same status. Sir Ken Robinson is a creativity expert, was a professor, and has children of his own. His speech uses humor and touching stories (pathos) to keep the audience engaged and interested while still getting his point across. One of the main points he argues is that " Every education on earth has the same hierarchy of subjects... mathematics and languages, then the humanities, then at the bottom are the arts" (Robinson). He argues that children in school are often steered away from the things that they love because that is most likely not what they are going to make a career out of, this stops the flow of creativity which is so vital for our youth. He says that dance should be taught at the same level as math because everyone dances at some point in their life and it allows creativity to flow. Robinson argues that having degree no longer qualifies you for a job. What use to require a bachelors not requires a masters and what use to require a masters now requires a PhD. The hierarchy of education continues to evolve and with the way children are learning they simply can not keep up. Students begin to believe they are failures because what they are good at is not rewarded at school. Robinson's speech is all about teaching kids to be creative rather then just teaching then how to solve an equation.
